HBR on Climate Change

Questions that companies must consider:

  1. How are my investments and operational strategies aligned to the reality of climate change?
  2. Is my organisation ready for a zero carbon future, and ready to respond to the emerging pressure of stakeholders? If not, what steps do we need take to become ready?
  3. What new business models or innovative products can my company pursue to reduce emissions, encourage dematerialisation and contribute to degrowth?
  4. Should catastrophe strike, how will my organisation respond to protect people, communities, supply chains and other assets? Are we prepared for such instances?

Dematerialisation:

Ways businesses can strategically respond to consumer-driven degrowth:

  1. Degrowth-adapted product design — create products with longer life spans, are modular or locally produced
  2. Value chain repositioning — exiting from certain stages of the value chain and delegate tasks to their stakeholders, including customers.
  3. Degrowth oriented standards setting — create a standard for the rest of the industry to follow (e.g. Patagonia & apparel repair)
